Who Is Mahesh Babu?

Ghattamaneni Mahesh Babu was born on 9 August 1975 in Chennai, the younger son of Telugu actor Krishna. He began as a child artist at age four in "Needa" (1979), appearing in several more films through the 1980s before taking a break to focus on his education — he holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Loyola College, Chennai. He returned as a lead actor with "Rajakumarudu" (1999), which won him the Nandi Award for Best Male Debut.

His breakthrough came with "Murari" (2001) and "Okkadu" (2003), and "Pokiri" (2006) became a genre-defining blockbuster that's still considered one of his finest performances. He's since starred in a string of commercial hits — "Dookudu," "Businessman," "Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu," "Srimanthudu," "Bharat Ane Nenu," "Maharshi," and "Sarkaru Vaari Paata" — earning five Filmfare Awards South and nine Nandi Awards, the most by any individual for "Srimanthudu" alone. He founded the Mahesh Babu Foundation, which funds life-saving congenital heart surgeries for children, and has featured on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list every year from 2012 to 2025.
